Already known as the most powerful four-door sedan on the planet, the 2015 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat now has a new talent — drifting.
Reaching speeds as high as 204 miles per hour, the 707 horsepower engine is in a class all its own. According to Car and Driver, Dodge claims the 707-horse power engine shines on the drag strip, reaching 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds. The Charger runs an NHRA-certified quarter-mile time of 11 seconds, making it the fastest stock car on the planet.
American gear-head darling Roadkill, which is poised to replace the now good-as-defunct Top Gear, tested the ruggedness and endurance of the 2015 Charger against its brothers, the Dodge Viper and the Dodge Challenger, in a side-by-side comparison of drift styles. The action begins around 17:11 when the Charger is run on the track for some drift practice.
The clear winner was the Charger, beating out the sexier Viper and the Charger’s twin, the Challenger, by a wide margin. Even more impressive: The Charger comes only with an automatic transmission that’s controlled by paddles, as one of Roadkill’s presenters found out mid-drift.
To control all this power, the Charger comes with two keys: a black one that limits the horsepower to a measly 500, and a red one that unharnesses the full muscle of all 707 horses.
